Help for Suicidal Teens

Teenage suicide is the process of self-killing by the teenager. There may be some problem due to which they attempt to end their life. The suicide rate among teenagers was decreased in the past 15 years but it was increased too much in ratio in the last 5 years.

Mostly the teenagers of 11 to 19 years old try to commit suicide. In the year 2001 about 134,000 teenagers commit suicide. Among the united state the suicide rate was higher of male teenager than the female teenagers in late 1990. More preventive measures have been taken in the last ten years,including increased understanding of the risk factors, help for suicidal teen and causes and spreading information to schools and parents.

Teenagers are committing suicide in high ratio. About 5000 teenagers commit suicide every year. Among them 15 to 24 years old people are in main. Whites commit suicide at a higher rate, than African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics. The most common method of committing suicide (58%) involves firearms. Next were hanging and poisoning.Simply making firearms less easily accessible to a suicidal person can drastically reduce their chance of them taking their own life.Followers of religions that strongly prohibit suicide, like Christianity and Islam, have a higher suicide rate than those religions which have no strong prohibition (e.g. Buddhism and Hinduism.

Sign of suicide attempt:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Feelings of hopelessness or rejection
  • Withdraws from regular activities with family or Friends Hospital
  • Alcohol or drugs abuse
  • Failing in school performance
  • Depression
  • Talk of suicide or death
  • Family history of mental disorder
  • Stressful situation or loss
  • Easy access to gun or poison
  • Previous suicide attempt
  • A traumatic event

The teen that try to commit suicide told why they do so. There is an overwhelming that after committing suicide they escape the condition, they are not able to deal with. To get relief from that position and other bad feelings they try to commit suicide. Some people who end their lives or attempt suicide might be trying to escape feelings of rejection, hurt, or loss. Others might be angry, ashamed, or guilty about something. Some people may be worried about disappointing friends or family members. Some may feel that they are unwanted, unloved, victimized, or like they're a burden to others.

Helping Tips for Suicidal Teen

Mostly teenagers that commit suicide are not cared or loved by their parents. So the parents try to pay attention on their teen and try to take care. Get your teen necessary help so that they can not be able to think about suicide. If you are a friend of some one and you know that he/she is planning for committing suicide, try to tell their parents as soon as possible. Find out who or what they fear and attempt to agree on who can be trusted with this information, but do not wait to notify the appropriate individuals. Better to anger someone by revealing their secret, than to see them dead because you didn't tell someone who could help them.
